The name borax is derived from the Persian
word borak, meaning white. IUPAC name of borax is sodium tetraborate decahydrate (Na2B4O7⋅10 H2O
). Also note that,
after analyzing its crystal structure, borax is more properly formulated
as Na2[B4O5(OH)4]⋅8H2O
