What is the product formed when glycerol react with Excess HI?

Reaction of glycerol with limited amount of warmed HI gives allyl iodide.

While in the presence of excess amount of HI, then allyl iodide reduced to propene, which further reacts with HI and forms isopropyle iodide.

(1) At 372 K to 383 K:

When glycerol is heated with oxalic acid at 373-383K (100–110°C) temperature formic acid is produced and here probably glycerol act as catalyst.

When glycerol is heated with oxalic acid at 373-383K (100–110°C) temperature formic acid is produced as one of the product along with regenerating glycerol.

The entire reaction proceed via formation of glycerol mono oxalate, decarboxylation and elimination of H₂O.

(2) At 503 K to 553 K:

When glycerol is heated with oxalic acid at higher temperature nearly 503 K to 553K (230-280°C) oxalic acid and glycerol react with each other to produce an allyl alcohol which is also produced via decarboxylation and elimination of H₂O.
