How many peroxy linkage present in Sodium perborate?

Sodium perborate consisting of a cyclic structure with two peroxy linkage containing –B–O–O–B–O–O– ring with two hydroxy groups attached to each boron atom.

The elementary structural unit of sodium perborates is a dimer anion B2O4(OH)4, in which two boron atoms are joined by two peroxy linkage  in a chair-shaped 6-membered ring, and the ring adopts a chair conformation and the simplistic formula of sodium borate is NaBO3·nH2O-type.

Sodium perborate is a white, odorless, water-soluble chemical compound with the chemical composition NaBO3.and it is crystallizes as;

The monohydrate, NaBO3·H2O,

Trihydrate, NaBO3·3H2O and

Tetrahydrate, NaBO3·4H2O

How to prepared Carbon Suboxide (C3O2) ?

Carbon Suboxide is obtained by heating Malonic acid in the presence of P4O10 which act as dehydrating agent. It is a foul smelling gas.

                              COOH-CH2-COOH --> O=C=C=C=O

What is the heating effect on metallic nitrate salts ?

Nitrates are prepared by the action of nitric acid on a metal or its oxide, hydroxide or carbonate. All nitrates are soluble in water. On heating, the nitrates of the alkali metals yield only oxygen and the nitrite (Except Lithium).

Most of the nitrate salts of other metals on heating decompose to produce metal oxide ,nitrogen dioxide (NO2) and oxygen gas. (Except M= Na, K, Rb, Cs but lithium(Li) do as above)

If the metal oxides is unstable to heat, in which case the metal and oxygen are formed for example from nitrates of mercury (Hg), silver (Ag), Gold (Au), and Platinum (Pt) because Gibb”s free energy of formation of these oxides are positive. (for more details see “Ellingham diagram”).

Exception case: Ammonium nitrate gives dinitrogen oxide and steam:

Their is a unique feature of Beryllium nitrate , on heating at low temperature (125℃) it give Basic Beryllium nitrate , nitrogen gas and oxygen gas but at high temperature (above 1000℃) it give same products like other bivalent nitrate salts.

How many nitrate groups are present in 1 molecule of basic beryllium nitrate?

Basic Beryllium nitrate is a Covalent compound and has as unique structure like [Be4O(NO3)6], containg six nitrate group. The more interesting structure of Basic Beryllium nitrate because the nitrate group act as indented ligand in forming a bridge  between two Be atoms.
